The colour scheme is important as the magazine must look appealing and eye catching in order for the target audience to notice it. When looking at Billboard magazines, they tend not to use bright, vibrant colours, which makes the magazine look more sophisticated.
For example: Grey, black, white Teal, black, white Blue, black ,white (maybe beige, depending on how it looks) Pastel colours (like blue or pink), black, white.

I will be publishing a questionnaire for people to answer which will help me make decisions when creating my magazine and about my target audience. The target audience for Billboard magazine is females 16+ years old. This depends which artist is featured on the front page as an artist such as Taylor Swift will appeal to a younger teenage audience whereas an artist such as Madonna would appeal to a much broader spectrum of readers. If a female artist is used, female readers will be more interested about the life and secrets of this artist. The magazine always has a specific target audience depending on the artist featured and the content in the magazine. By looking at Billboard magazine it tends to include many articles on the front cover, this makes it look like an interesting, busy magazine which has rich articles that will convince the reader that the magazine is worthy of their money. Billboard tends to use female artists on the page who are good looking and appealing, so the younger female audience may aspire to be like them. The magazine tends to have a mature, appealing look which suggests it isn't intended for females below 16. The magazines also use factual information such as about the charts and what is current, this helps appeal to the young target audience as they may feel it is important to keep up with the latest music and enjoy what is mainstream. I have noticed the clothing of the artist featured tends to be in fashion or they wear something rather sophisticated and modern, which illustrates they are significant in the music industry and this makes the reader think the magazine looks modern and elegant. Here are a few magazine front covers which I may follow similar convention patterns: How I will appeal to my target audience? In my magazine I will try to produce something similar to what I have previously spoken about by including different articles which entices the target audience with information that is interesting to them. I will use a female model who will wear something stylish so it appeals to my target audience of 16+. My model will look like an important artist so the female readers would see her as a role model.I will also include a strapline and any information I think is relevant which could appeal to the younger female audience yet not over complicate the magazine as it must look sophisticated. Here are a few magazine front covers which I may follow similar convention patterns: ![]() The term "pop music" is actually an abbreviation for the word "popular music" This was a term used in 1926 to describe a piece of music which had a "popular appeal". Pop music was organised in Britain in the mid 1950's as an alternative to a softer version of rock and roll and the new youth music styles that it influenced. In the 1950s the TV was created and this meant pop stars could gain popularity amongst people. The 1950's were a time of changes and the music of the decade both reflected the cultural changes that were happening while still holding on to the societal norms of the past. Some examples of traditional pop artists who were popular during the decade were Perry Como, Tony Bennett, Nat King Cole, Patti Page and Dean Martin. Often the most popular musicians in this genre translated well onto television as they would sometimes have their own television variety shows or music specials. Most songs in this genre could be classified as being simple and melodic with catchy lyrics. Then in the 1960s the radio was introduced where people could listen to pop music in their homes and enjoy it. From about 1967, the term "pop music" was increasingly used in opposition to the term rock music, which caused a division. Pop music had many influences which adapted it to produce songs and acts. For example, pop music picked up instrumentation from jazz and rock music, vocal harmonies from gospel music and soul music, formed from the sentimental ballads, tempo from dance music, support from electronic music and spoken passages from rap. 1960s 'Mod' fashion Mod, short for 'modern', refers to a youth lifestyle that emerged from London during the 1960s, and quickly spread to America, Europe and Australia. Centred around London's thriving pop music, art and fashion scene, the mod lifestyle focused on innovation and the 'new'. Mod fashion was slim fitting and featured bold geometric shapes. Colour was also a key concern - the conservative greys, browns and pastels of the 1950s were replaced by bright, wild hues. In contrast to fashion trends of the past, these garments were mass-produced and affordable. Examples of this style was dresses, skirts and coats which were fitted and had brightly coloured garments were sold cheaply in boutiques all over 'Swinging London' and had tremendous influence throughout Europe and the US. Common Pop Artists. The most common pop music artist in the 1960s was The Beatles. The Beatles were an English band, formed in Liverpool in 1960. With members John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. helped to reshape Western pop music and were the most successful band ever. Every album was a huge hit from the early material on Please Please Me (1963).As a unit the Beatles were a synergistic combination: Paul McCartney's melodic bass lines, Ringo Starr's drumming, George Harrison's rockabilly-style guitar leads, John Lennon's rhythm guitar and of course their four voices. As personalities, they defined and Sixties style: smart, idealistic and playful. Their music, from the not-so-simple love songs they started with to their later perfectionist studio extravaganzas, set new standards for both commercial and artistic success in pop. In 1970 they won an academy award for 'Let It Be'. They continued winning awards like BRIT awards and many grammy awards. They were believed to have shaped pop music. Another major influence in the development of pop music was Michael Jackson. He was considered as 'the king of pop'. At just 13 years old, Jackson was dominating pop radio stations. He had launched a solo career in the early 1970s, while continuing to perform with the Jackson 5, and topped the charts with such memorable songs like, 'Got to Be There' and 'Ben,' which became the first Number one single of Jackson's solo career. He also collaborated with several legendary artists, directors, and producers; he worked with director John Landis on the highly acclaimed music video for 'Thriller'. Throughout the span of his four-decade musical career, Jackson received several awards, including Grammy Awards for Best Short Form Music Video and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. Among various other honours, he won more than one dozen American Music Awards and the People's Choice Award for Favourite All-Around Male Entertainer. One of the most popular female pop music artists was Madonna who was is a singer-song writer. In 1981, Madonna decided to go solo and hired manager Camille Barbone of Gotham Records to help her get her singing career on track. After her song 'everybody' became a hit, she was able to produce a full-length album called Madonna in 1983. The album was a slow but steady success, and included the hit singles "Borderline," "Lucky Star" and "Holiday." Soon, girls all over the country were imitating Madonna's distinct sense of fashion, which included fishnet stockings, lace lingerie, fingerless gloves and large crucifix necklaces. She became a sensation on the then male-dominated '80s music scene. By 1991, she had achieved 21 Top 10 hits in the United States and sold more than 70 million albums internationally. Pop Musics development: Pop music has defiantly changed over time. In the early 1960s, chords called dominant sevenths, found in jazz and blues started to die out. Instead, in 1964 the invasion of British bands such as, the Beatles introduced a radical new rocky sound. New technology, synthesisers, samplers and drum machines, drove a second major style shift in 1983.The music of today has been shaped for years and years to refine to its quality of today. Old stars of the previous decades such as Madonna attempt to keep their career afloat by releasing singles occasionally. As of late 2000’s, pop music started to blend in with R&B as showed in the music of Nelly Furtado, Rihanna, and Pussycat Dolls.Though it follows the natural trend of music over the decades, music in the last few years has been repeatedly criticized for its sexual lyrics and violent themes. Music has always followed a pattern in a culture and one genre of music is soon replaced by another in terms of popularity and record sales. Popular musicians can often build a fan base that will continue to buy their albums as long as they make them while other bands tend to be one-hit wonders that society never hears from again. This is the pattern that has been followed by the music industry for decades and will probably continue to happen for many decades to come. As long as people's taste and preferences continue to change, as will the music of the time. Artist In the 2000 Decade Example One of the most well known artists today is Singer and actress Beyoncé Giselle Knowles. She started singing at an early age, competing in local talent shows and winning many of these events by impressing audiences with her singing and dancing abilities. Beyoncé formed an all-female singing group called Destiny's child. However, Beyoncé took centre stage as a solo artist, releasing her first album, Dangerously in Love, in 2003. It sold millions of copies and won five Grammy Awards. Later in 2003 the group Destiny's child split and she continued to go alone. On her own, Beyoncé continued to enjoy great success. Her second studio album, 2006's B'Day featured such hits as "Irreplaceable" and "Deja Vu." She has continued to work as hard as ever, promoting her latest tracks and albums. Here is a presentation of one of the Billboard magazine front covers. I have clearly described the conventions and house style of this magazine and chosen this for an idea for my final product, however I will research different magazine constructions.
